Unified activity planning and P&ID visualization for oil & gas turnaround teams — designed the feature set, cross-tool UX flow, and success metrics connecting Maintain with Industrial Canvas.

What started as a hackathon rescue mission: stepping in after a project team's vibe-coded prototype failed to meet client expectations, evolved into a full-scale visualization platform for a chemical refinery. At its core sat a single, map-first experience, with a 1:1 digital representation of the real refinery that let any user, regardless of role, understand criticality and live data across the entire site at a glance. The same map and design system powered six distinct dashboards: Executive, Operations, Reliability, and others — each surfacing different metrics for different audiences, without breaking a shared, consistent experience.

Onboarding industrial users to a complex data platform like CDF requires more than a simple login screen — it involves aligning authorization models, user roles, and access paths with how customers actually work. This project tackled the technical and UX challenges of advanced onboarding, partnering closely with engineering teams to redesign how users are authorized and guided into the product, with a strong focus on eliminating fragmented, multi-login experiences in favor of a single, unified entry point.

As Cognite Fusion grew from few flagship apps into a platform where customers and partners can build their own apps through Custom Apps, fragmented per-app navigation stopped being a minor inconsistency and became a platform-level risk. This project defined a unified, customizable navigation architecture to replace disconnected navigation patterns — reclaiming usable space in existing apps, restoring user confidence across workflows, finally delivering the navigation customization users had been requesting for a long time, and giving every future app a scalable foundation instead of reinventing navigation from scratch.

Inveox GmbH (Munich, founded 2017) built Pathology 4.0® — a system digitalizing and automating sample intake in histopathology, combining an intelligent sample container, an automated intake machine, and an online platform connecting treating physicians with labs. The company’s mission was direct: manual, inconsistent lab processes were the most common cause of misdiagnosis in pathology, and digitalizing the workflow meant safer, faster cancer diagnoses. Inveox was recognized with multiple awards (EIT Health Award, German Innovation Prize, World Health Summit Award), named to Forbes’ “Most Promising Startups,” and joined the World Economic Forum before COVID ultimately closed the business. I worked there over 5 years ago as part of the core team shaping this product, and I’m including it here because the problem still matters to me — I recently revisited the original Figma package from that time and rebuilt parts of the experience with current tools and a vibe-coded approach, simply to keep exploring the problem with the skills I have today.

Following a leadership change, Cognite’s new design leadership issued a challenge to the entire design team: in just 2 weeks, build a vibe-coded solution that demonstrated what AI-driven design could unlock for the product. Out of the whole team, 3 solutions were selected as winners and presented directly to the CPO, CTO, and other senior stakeholders — mine was one of them. What started as a design skills showcase ended up driving real strategic change: it directly contributed to Cognite’s decision to invest in a new AI-driven design system and AI-powered, custom product experiences — work that later shaped the Aura design system and opened a new, monetizable market for custom solutions.
